Review of Killshot (2008) by Vic R — 28 Dec 2009
Rourke struggles with his accent throughout this film and his performance is emblematic of the the entire uneven production. Madden's film is atmospheric but to no greater effect and it is also mostly miscast.
It is as if they had a list of stars that were willing to appear in the film and the filmmakers simply shoehorned them in as best they could. After a pretty decent set up the film goes slack. While eventful and fleetingly suspenseful, the proceedings never coalesce into anything meaningful.
There are some good moments between Diane Lane and Thomas Jane playing a separated couple forced into witness protection together and I kept hoping that the film would spend more time with them. Rourke plays the sociopath pursuing them and the film spends a majority of its time with him but the film is unable to generate any deeper resonance between these plot threads.
