Review of Killing Zoe (1993) by Colin N — 27 Jul 2008
Do not care whether or not Quentin fans like this or not, this film is independent from the rest. The hero played by Eric Stoltz and the villian played by Jean-Hugues Anglade were wonderful opposites. It was incredible.
The film has a split death and birth metaphor as a constant. The death of Zed's ideas of what he knows and the birth of his new reality with Zoe. It has a Tarantino feel, but it isn't Tarantino.
It's different and that's what I like about it. The hero is a bit of an anti-hero which is always a relief, the herione is pretty down to earth and the villian is down right nasty. It's not a story about a bank heist, it's how Zed saw Zoe the first time, killed his idea of who she was and regained a new perception of her.
Without seeing the film this a hard idea to understand. I highly recommend this film if you like open-ended films that you can form an opinion. Because everything I just said, is all under my assumption.
That is the beauty of this film. You have your own idea of what it's about.
