Review of Killer Elite (2011) by Angelina C — 10 Oct 2012
The trailer captured my interest, it promises potent mixture of gritty '80s-style action sequences and a globetrotting plot. Statham, De Niro and Owen-now this should be an exciting espionage film.
And you would think that any movie starring them would be one you would want to remember, I was woefully disappointed. It is adapted from the 1991 controversial book called The Feather Men, true or not this hostage-taking, continent-jumping story, all it amounts to is a clichéd assassin movie.
It is a vehicle expertly tailored to the particular talents of Jason Statham. His characters are pretty much the same. He is at his best when he's looking stoic and deadly and fighting six bad guys at once but please, can we avoid having him trying to act tender and kissing the girl? Annoying flashbacks revealed that he has a beautiful someone back home in Oz.
. De Niro's character, meanwhile, remains locked up for three quarters of the movie. This movie failed to live up to the its potentially interesting premise.
