Review of Kikujiro (1999) by T K — 12 Jul 2006
A tale of a boy who goes searching for his mother who deserted him and is accompanied by a semi-stranger man shouldn't work. The fact is that it's pulled off with the minimum of fuss, with many, many touches of humour.
At no point do you feel the bond between the two is fake or forced at all. Add in a couple of hilarious biker dudes they pick up along their journey and you've got yourself a feel good movie.
