Review of Kikujiro (1999) by Michael G — 29 Jun 2009
So bizarre, comical and heart-warming that this little hidden gold deserves to be tracked down and watched. Though not raunchy, or explictly dirty, or just in bad taste, some of the humour may be too off-the-wall for most, and the slow pacing may seem tedious, but "Beat" Takeshi Kitano knows how to craft a well concieved story.
Superbly written and directed by Kitano, as well acted by all players in this one-of-a-kind film, and interestingly edited by him too in a fascinating fashion. This realistic and modern retelling of "The Wizard of Oz" is an enjoyable treat that needs to be watched, though may not be for everyone.
