Review of Kidulthood (2006) by Paul P — 17 Jul 2008
I have really mixed feelings about this film, it definately had good and bad points.
The story is well told, the acting was surprisingly mature in places and the overall sense of realism was very effective indeed. I guess that is where the problem lies for me.
It is depressingly realistic and although the morality of the story is in the right place, I couldn't help but feel that it glamourises the culture that it is portraying. The frequent depiction of drug taking (without the consequence) and generally crap behaviour of pretty much every character left a bad taste in my mouth.
Inspite of this, I still found myself interesetd and drawn in to what I was seeing which is down to the storytellers.
