Review of Kids (2011) by Jon P — 30 Dec 2013
Deeply disturbing, regularly revolting and completely unabashed in it's eye-opening treatment of teen issues as tender as rape, paedophilia and HIV, Larry Clark's raw, realist sex drama is one of the bravest and most shocking American films ever made.
Destitute of heart and riddled with unrelenting tastelessness, the film is by no means entertaining, inspiring or even enjoyable. What this is, is a raw, shattering cautionary tale; quite simply the slimiest, dirtiest chunk of cinema you'll ever see. And that's precisely why it's absolutely essential viewing, especially for teens. Truly astonishing stuff.
