Review of Kids (2011) by Mailor S — 23 Feb 2018
Eerily realistic to the point of uncountability. This film explores the life of a several middle/lower class New York teens growing up in the mid 90's but is still highly relatable to modern day. I first saw this film at the age of 17 and it highly altered my way of thinking when it came to partying and sexual relations as well as the use of drugs.
It was shown to me by a friend under the pretense that it was going to rattle my brain and make me laugh. It was quite the brain rattler, but the laughter he seemed to have found did not come to strike me in the same way.
I was more mortified and uneasy about the film when it had ended. I suppose the funny aspect of the film may have been him showing me such a deranged and realistic movie and wanting to see my reaction to such.
I would highly recommend this movie to people of ages 18+ due to its incredible way of drawing the watcher in and making them feel like they are somewhat a friend of these kids and having an undying desire to prevent most of what you see from happening.
