Review of Kelly's Heroes (1970) by Gordon T — 22 Aug 2011
A Great, Great Movie.
(Metro Goldwyn Meyer's answer to 20th Century Fox's MASH).
Donald Sutherland as Odball and Lalo Sherrifin's music steal the show!
Its takes place during World War II but has a distinct "Vietnam War Vibe:" there's a lot of friendly fire, GI (General Infantry) guys being killed by their own country's mortor fire and Oddball is a total hippie . . .
"Don't think about bad thoughts," Oddball (again, Donald Southerland) says, "because you give of negative vibrations into the universe.".
AND we say that even today (41 YEARS LATER).
I LOVE KELLY'S HEROES and think about it often . . . I saw it three days ago finally all the way through.
Oddball . . . quite a character.
Lalo Shariffin writes an awesome Ennio Morricone-type cue to compliment Kelly's (Clint Eastwood) entrence into the French town.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! (ha ha ha ha ha ha).
---today's equivilant must be Tropic Thunder.
