Review of Kahaani (2012) by Tasneem S — 25 Mar 2012
It's not easy for a pregnant woman to lie down facing the ceiling, she cannot get up with the torso first up, cannot walk fast, cannot bend down to the ground. Vidya Balan has acted very well and Calcutta looks beautiful.
Director takes credit for showing snapshot-like scenes of the true Indian busy markets, a random guy on the street drinking coffee from the saucer, and several such expressions and sets the mood of the audience to a busy and distinct Calcutta.
There are some scenes purposely made to play tricks with the minds of the audience and the director scores really big when all these mind games burst out at an amazing climax. He also wins big at humour such as, while introducing the character of the Life Insurance Agent.
While in theatre, I felt the movie was good for national standards but not for the international audience. But as I walked out at the end, I felt I was stamped hard a question on my forehead, 'Now what? Is this movie a 10/10?' I gave a 4/5 because, I later realized I wasn't holding onto my seats like when I watched 'Blood Diamond', 'Bourne Identity', 'A wednesday', 'Parzania', etc and because hacking a website, computer, etc so easily turned me off.
Go watch it and get outsmarted. Kahaani - A Brilliant thriller!!
