Review of Kagemusha (1980) by Kevin J — 10 Apr 2014
This was my first time watching a film by Akira Kurosawa and I was anything but disappointed. The cinematography was great as expected and, while certainly slow, the film was absolutely engrossing. At times, the film can certainly be more than a little confusing (especially during battle sequences), but in spite of that, it remained enjoyable.
There was a small amount of humor mixed in there that really helped to lighten the mood, but any lightening of the mood was undone by the ending sequences, which were heartbreakingly tragic to watch unfold.
Overall, Kagemusha is a really good film and I cannot wait to keep exploring Kurosawa's works.
