Review of Kaboom (2010) by Caleb C — 06 Mar 2011
Gregg Araki's Mysterious Skin is his best movie for me, but unbelievably enough, it was his only movie that didn't resemble his usual directing style. Compared to all his other films, Mysterious Skin was...normal.
Araki is a director who loves to return to theme patterns: drugs, sex, pending doom, destruction, teenage angst. And this movie features all of that! Araki is probably one of the very few directors whose films can make you hard - boner-inducing sex scenes included in this film (how subtle am I?).
And to get to the point (the what?), I loved this movie. It was crazy beyond imagination, made no sense here and there, but I still loved it. Juno Temple was amazing, Thomas Dekker was incredibly attractive, and I'm really glad Araki and Duval worked together again. So, bottom line is...if you're an Araki fan, this film will do you justice. If you're not familiar with or don't like Araki...good luck.
