Review of Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham (2001) by Sâmir B — 26 May 2008
It's amazing what time does when you watch a film again, seven years after it first released. Karan Johar certainly didn't scrimp in this magnus opus. With dashings of emotions, family values and pride in the family honour, one stops thinking and just watches.
Of course a fine performance by the stellar cast. The Bachchans, SRK and Kajol certainly stole the accolades. Hrithik was either in lots of glycerine or spangly shiny clothes. And Kareena, bless one often wonders if her performance was consistent - one minute she's super bimbo Poo, the other minute she's becoming Parvati - especially towards the end of the film.
Nevertheless, it was a heart warming film, one which 7 years ago, made me think of my mum and how she cried all night after this movie... and 7 years on, made me think of my mum, and how glad I am she has passed on.
