Review of K-PAX (2001) by Serpil A — 18 Apr 2010
I adore kevin spacey and he peforms such a great acting as usual in this film, too. I believe prot is certainly an alien but what matters is not if he is just crazy or a real alien. I love the idea of using friedrich nietzsche's eternal recurrence in the film only if the message were not given within in a verbal sentence by prot.
the director should have let viewers understand the message themselves! it sent shivers down my spine when I learnt prot had a trauma before and if he makes up the story that he was coming from another planet because I made me scared when I saw the possibility to make up such a far reaching story to avoid the pain inside! man's mind is amazing.
in the end it makes us believe we re-live our lives on and on and again. that is scaring, too. his eating fruits, talking to a dog, his knowledge on universe and binary system and his ultraviolet sight make us reflect on many things, causing us dig more information.
he is -in a way- both a human and alien because after he livesthe trauma of seeing his wife and child killed, he turns into an alien so it doesn't really matter if he is really from this earth or not.
what matters is the actions and reactions we observe and take a lesson. it is an awesome film tailor made. you should not miss the soundtrack! it is beautiful! I love the music!
