Review of Junebug (2005) by Ali J — 26 Feb 2008
I love this kind of movie and US independent cinema does it brilliantly. Very character driven plot about a newly married couple who go back to the husband's home town in North Carolina and stay with his family, whilst the wife pursues a local artist she wishes to sign for her Chicago gallery.
A chain of events within the family and their interaction with the very different wife are the focus of the narrative. Fantastic acting, quite moving and often amusing, this film is a treat. Good sideburn rating: 3/10, not great, although Mr Nivola usually sports at least a nod towards a decent facial hair display.
Presence of sartorially elegant men: 1/10 We are talking small town in North Carolina here. Sartorial elegance is not really present in the male wardrobe of choice.
