Review of Junebug (2005) by Audree D — 03 Mar 2008
I am glad I finally saw this movie. Amy Adams was just precious. She really deserved the nom.
Overall the movie was ok. I almost felt like it was incomplete, however. You are introduced to all these characters, you learn that most of them are screwed up and complete a dysfunctional family, however you don't know how they got that way. And at one pivotal scene, I actually thought I was going to learn about why there was so much resentment between a few of the characters and yet nothing that disclosed any new info surface, and I was left to continue wondering. If the writers were hoping for the viewer to draw their own conclusions, I'd have to let them know that they didn't give us enough to go off of in the first place.
The main character was good. I didn't really have many strong feelings towards her. You hardly learn anything about George until the end when he shows slight depth. And Johnny's ridiculous demeanor was never ever explained. I was holding out hope that his over-the-top anger would be explored before the end, but it never was. Hardly anything seemed resolved at the end.
With this said, it was still a decent movie. I don't know if I'd see it again, if for nothing more than to ogle Amy Adams in her most endearing role. She was perfectly believable and lovable.
