Review of Juliet, Naked (2018) by Acacia — 07 Sep 2018
I really enjoyed this movie! It is rather unsung, but so charming and delightful. It is about three middle aged people who can’t seem to get their act together. Rose Byrne is Annie. She has been with her boring boyfriend for 15 years, but it seems there has never been a big reason to move on.
Chris O’Dowd is Duncan, the boyfriend, who is obsessed with a former rock star who disappeared years ago into obscurity. He hosts an internet band of groupies who talk and speculate endlessly upon various aspects of Trevor Crowe’s works and his personal life.
Ethan Hawke is Crowe, a man who had a lot going for himself in his younger days, but gave it all up. Duncan’s latest blather about Crowe’s masterpiece of work, an album titled “Juliet, Naked,” draws much chatter from his obsessed fan friends.
However, one lone voice of dissent draws an unexpected response and sets the movie’s storyline on its eventual trajectory. This movie is sweet and often laugh out loud funny. It is character driven and all three characters are beautifully played by these three wonderful actors.
