Review of Jules and Jim (1962) by Drew M — 27 Jul 2007
To me, Jules and Jim represents everything I've come to love and hate about French New Wave cinema: inconsistent, bizarre, fake, realistic, frustrating, entertaining, etc.
Good: Leaves a distinct impression on you. Very compelling characters, well written overall.
Bad: Frustrating characters. Sloppy camera work at some times. Odd 3rd person omniscient narrator. (Though to be fair, all of these are just traits of French New Wave, and are part of its charm in the first place).
