Review of Jules and Jim (1962) by Lane W — 17 Mar 2009
Sure, this masterpiece might not be as visually stunning as it was nearly half a century ago (and I wish I could have been there for that), but it stands as one of the most entertaining, involving, eyes-glued-to-the-fuckin'-tube films ever made. I think that I learned more about relationships from viewing this than I did from dating. More important than my developmental ramblings is the fact that this film redefined cinema and the way we view the narrative. All that change during the Hollywood of the 60's can be attributed to overseas film movements.
Jules and Jim is a sight to behold, remarkably beautiful, touching, and ultimately nihilistic.
Truly a spectacle.
