Review of Judgment at Nuremberg (1961) by Anish D — 01 Nov 2010
A group of judges who carried out the Nazi laws during the reign of the Third Reich have put on trial before a tribunal-this trial forms the main plot of the movie.A courtroom drama-the very best I might add.
Because over the next 186 minutes it's a storm.A clash of ideologies-of responsibilites,of good and evil and a recap of humanity's darkest hour.
The screenplay is unbelievably great-the speed of the movie is such that it's hard to believe it was made in 1961.A 3 hour long drama with not a single boring moment.
Dialogues are the very best-thought provoking,impassioned,burning,inspirational-The dialogues touch the very core of our soul.
Character development is yet another aspect which hugely impresses.Every character is not just well-etched out and deep but at a point in the movie-every character is a lead-you can feel their pain, their beliefs, their dilemma, their anger.Every perspective is considered here.
Cinematography-Cinemtaography is outstanding-Again absolutely amazing that this is a 1961 movie-the close up shots, the camera angles are absolutely fantastic.
Finally-the biggest plus point of the movie-the acting. When the fourth supporting actor gives a performance that could be considered more than oscar-worthy and yet not better than the others-you know the movie is heavy with great acting. From Lancaster to Widmark to Schell to Tracy everyone has their moments-and everyone performs outstandingly.
An absolutely perfect movie-if I ever saw one.One of the best movies I have ever seen.
