Review of Jude (1996) by Oren S — 12 Jun 2006
*crushing depression* Thomas Hardy was not, it must be said, the merriest of fellows - - - and I think he would have been satisfied with the depressing bleakness of this film adaptation of, arguably, his most bleak and depressing novel.
Christopher Eccelston and Kate Winslet act this stunningly well and the most horrifying scenes were, I felt, handled with great sensitivity - giving Hardy's slightly melodramatic narrative a very real and human feel.
Not a film to be watched on a grey or rainy day - I wont be watching it again for quite some time.
