Review of Jude (1996) by Jane A — 06 Aug 2009
This was pretty brutal, but then again, the only reason I found out it existed was because it was featured on a list called The 10 Most Miserable Movies Ever Made.. as number two, coming in second only to Requiem for a Dream.
As one commenter said, Jude fits the profile better. At least Requiem has the whole drug use thing to fall back on. Thomas Hardy was just not a guy for happy endings. That said, the real reason I sought this out (Netflix doesn't have it, so I had to scour the internet) is because Kate Winslet stars.
True to form, her performance was absolutely excellent. She and Chris Eccleston have great on screen chemistry and really portray a relationship that has the ability to endure. Rachel Griffiths is also worth a mention in her small role as Arabella.
