Review of Jonah Hex (2010) by Cole M — 16 Apr 2011
It's like the "Ghost Rider" movie a few years back. You've got a dark-humored antihero, caught between Earth and hell. And like "Ghost Rider", there's no definitive danger or eminent threat because our said antihero will get through it without any problem.
Tom Wopat, Megan Fox, Will Arnett, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan are completely underused and wasted. Brolin, while makes for a convincing gunslinger, mostly growls and shoots his way through the movie (I personally wanted Thomas Jane for the role). Michael Fassbender seems like he is having a wonderful time as a cartoony henchman whom seems like Colin Farrel's Bullseye and Jack Nicholson's Joker had a baby together. He's a lot of fun to watch but he, like everyone else, doesn't have much to do.
Then, there's John Malkovich whom seems like he's going through the motions in this.
I think in the production of this, they tried to make a good movie, but at an hour and 24 minutes it self-destructs midway through.
Magical cannonballs? Really?
I read the screenplay for this when it came out and I thought the script from the "CRANK" wasn't that bad but it needed a lot of work. Unfortunately, most of their script is in tact, and much like its titled character--- it ain't a pretty site to look at.
