Review of Joe's Apartment (1996) by Dane P — 13 Dec 2015
Enjoyably silly film, which if I remember right was the first film produced by MTV. I think this film was an expanded version of a short that ran on their old "Liquid Television" series where MTV showed different oddball shorts.
In this film, Joe, Jerry O'Connell, gets a cheap nasty rent controlled NYC apartment. The bad guys want to chase him out, but O'Connell is helped by his singing and dancing roommates, who are thousands of cockroaches.
The film makes no pretense and knows exactly what it wants to be, which is always nice. Written and directed by John Payson, he gives the film a nice Marc Caro and Jean-Pierre Jeunet type of feel, ALA "Delicatessen.
" Overall, the film isn't anything brilliant, but if singing and dancing cockroaches doing Busby Berkley sounds like a good time, you might enjoy this film.
