Review of Joe (2014) by Tanner P — 25 Apr 2014
David Gordon Green has been away from his atmospheric story telling style for too long. I've been waiting for more films like George Washington and All The Real Girls and Undertow. Green suprised us all with the hit stoner flick Pinapple Express ,and finally after a few comedy flops (The Sitter, Your Highness), he is back to those atmospheric roots with Prince Avalanche, and his latest Joe.
Green brings so much to the screen by casting non actors all over the place. The people fit into the small decaying town because they are the town. Nicolas Cage plays Joe and it is visible how deeply rooted he's become in the role.
David Gordon Green ceases to amaze with hauntingly real unscripted beauty. Green has found the middle ground of a calm Atmospheric film combined with one that has strong characters who we can love.
