Review of Joe (2014) by Facebook U — 16 Aug 2015
Joe is a brutal, tragic, and scarily realistic look at life is modern rural America. Anchored by powerful performances from not only it's leads, but also it's side characters and extras, David Gordon Green has crafted a brutally raw and refreshing unsentimental film on the hardships faced by people everyday in this very country.
Everything is well paced and the southern atmosphere of poverty and back breaking labor are captured perfectly . It's a true return to form for Nic Cage considering his movies haven't been that good the past few years.
I would say this is his come black, but considering he also just released Rage and Left Behind, I feel he is falling into a pattern of releasing lots of terrible movies, then releasing this one masterpiece about once or twice a decade.
Well as long as those masterpieces consist of films like Joe, it'll be worth the wait.
