Review of Joe (2014) by Ethan E — 26 Jan 2016
American Social Realism, New Southern Gothic. Dark and well-made. Well directed and well-acted. It could use improvement in editing as the pacing lags, but in my book that just brings it down to a score of 9 on a scale from 1 to 10.
Cage and Sheridan are excellent. The fact that only 68% liked this says little about the film and much more about the lack of depth of too many viewers. This film is unsung, misunderstood and under-appreciated.
A good Southern Gothic film is a rare thing and people who have dissed "Joe" don't seem to understand the genre.
