Review of Jodhaa Akbar (2008) by Selina S — 02 Oct 2008
This is a very ambitious movie aiming to address several aspects: the love story of the two, the greatness of the king, inter-religious tolerance, Hindustan's history, and even popularly neglected in the West pacific history of Islam.
In order to fully enjoy it; I would suggest wrapping yourself in a soft Indian sari, having some good chicken tikka masala, and good incense while you watch it; it is a complete feast to the senses! The graphics, the colors, the music, the greatness of it all made me travel to a magical world for hours! However, the glorious and even naïve dialogues made it feel more like a legend story, taking away realism from the movie.
As well as the visual perfection of the protagonistsâ?¦ who are both very good looking people. On a shallower note, I was a bit disappointed about the lack of dance material; with such luscious costumes and settings, it was a waste.
The sword choreographies were not a good replacement. Even though I donâ??t think Ash is the neither best dancer nor actress; I missed her presence, it was not enough compared to the amount of attention given to Roshan, who looked a bit â??acartonadoâ?? or made of cardboard.
Perhaps better title could have been â??Akbarâ??. Andâ?¦ why was Ash hiding her green eyes? I perceived her role a bold statement; she looked more ordinary, spoke little, didnâ??t dance and I even think I saw a slight increase in weightâ?¦ maybe transitioning to a more mature state of her career? Regardless of the Bollybuzz, it is a worth watching, get excited, fall in love, check out the naked chest, we all love one another travel to the legendary and sweetly inter-religiousl India.
