Review of Jindabyne (2006) by Rolf S — 29 Oct 2007
I can't say 'enjoy' because it was really unerving throughout but I am biased towards Gabriel Byrne and Australian filmaking (hints of 'Picnic at Hanging Rock' here) so it 'reeled' me in - which I now realise is a metaphor for the whole story.
It is a film that makes you, well me sad but that is a good reaction too sometimes. It was a brilliant attack on Australia's race relations 'problem' in a subtle way and a distinct look at grieving.
I'd really recommend it if you like understated acting and a well considered writing in your movies.
