Review of Jindabyne (2006) by Eric M — 02 Jan 2011
Ray Lawrence's adaptation of the Raymond Carver story "So Much Water So Close to Home" benefits from good lead performances and the director's skillful ability to maintain an atmosphere of dread, but is also marred by an unneccessary serial-killer subplot, which ends on an unsatisyfing note that isn't ambiguous so much as vague.
The screenwriter's attempt to play up racial tensions between whites and indigenous natives also doesn't really add anything to the story, which was adapted much more successfully as one of the subplots in Robert Altman's "Short Cuts".
