Review of Jeremiah Johnson (1972) by Diana S — 19 Apr 2010
A "Dances with Wolves" forerunner. Set in the mid-19th century, after the Civil War, the film centers on a man who leaves society and the ravages of war to survive on his own as a trapper in the Rocky Mountain wilderness with harsh weather and Indians as adversaries (and trading partners both).
The script is very lean -- often excessively -- but the visuals are lovely, the general idea behind the story is interesting, and it's hard not to enjoy Robert Redford in cowboy garb.
