Review of Jeremiah Johnson (1972) by Jonathan C — 13 Feb 2006

[font=Arial Black]I love this movie. I have watched this movie more times in my life than any other movie, bar none. Star Wars would be second, but it is not even close. I see little kids today that watch videos continually like Barney, and whatever homoerotic kids show you can think of, not me I wanted to watch Jeremiah Johnson with my dad. [/font].

[font=Arial Black]My dad traveled a lot. A real lot, more than a lot, he was hardly ever home. But when he was home I was in his lap watching Jeremiah Johnson until he left. [/font].

[font=Arial Black]So, I may be a little biased. OK very biased. It is almost disturbing how biased but anyway this is a great movie. Why is it so great? I really don't know. The cinematography is awesome. I don't really know if I know what that term means other than, the camera shots are really cool. Well, in this movie which was shot mostly on Robert Redfords ranch is very well shot. Large landscape shots of the mountains. Snow, mountains, forrests. [/font].

[font=Arial Black]I am not a hunter or even what most people would consider an outdoorsman or a tough guy. But I love that kind of stuff. I guess that is why you idolize different things, anything that you aren't you will see as heroic and magical. I guess I see that in this movie. [/font].

[font=Arial Black]The story is about the triumph of the human spirit, which I agree with my father, for once, that that makes a great movie. Me and my dad have not always seen eye to eye but we do about this movie. This movie transcends class, creed, the generation gap. It is about a man that decided he was going to do something, and he did it, he was willing to pay the price for what he wanted, was it worth it, I'm not sure if he ever finds out, but that is what life is. [/font].

[font=Arial Black]Is the squeeze worth the juice? [/font].

[font=Arial Black]This is a movie with humor, action, love story, and blah blah blah. All the things that make a great movie. Jeremiah Johnson is someone that you would respect if you met him on the street. Someone that if he were real you would want to be like. At least I did after I saw it the first time and every time that I have every watched it since. Which honestly would have to be somewhere up around 500-1000 times. [/font].
