Review of Jennifer's Body (2009) by Remote G — 31 Jan 2011

Directed by Karyn Kusama, this teen horror is deceptively grown up with an erotic edge to it which will have you blushing. With Megan Fox in the title role, it is a surprisingly sassy movie that is also quite scary.
Jennifer, (Megan Fox) and Needy (Amanda Seyfried) are best friends at high school. True to form they are polar opposites, but it's a friendship that works well despite Jennifer being the focal point of attraction wherever they happen to be. Needy can't quite believe her luck in attracting such a charismatic friend, and her adoration of Jennifer borders on hero worship. As per usual, when Jennifer suggests a night out at the local bar to see a revered rock band, Needy finds herself saying yes, despite having other plans. And that's when the fun begins.
Megan Fox is well cast as the sultry and sexy Jennifer, and is convincingly scary once she's red and ready. But the true star of the movie has to be Amanda Seyfried. She is excellent as the retiring Needy who transforms herself into a veritable powerhouse, in order to conquer the demon that used to be Jennifer. Kyle Gallner (Haunting in Connecticut), has a minor role as goth student Colin, but is 100% credible as the vulnerable guy about to be ravished by someone who has definitely NOT featured in his dreams.
Horrific moments aside, there are some witty one liners, and Devil's Kettle may be too obvious a name for the town where it's all happening, but it's an enjoyable movie with a well developed story that isn't short of surprises. A Halloween treat for everyone.
