Not a total waste, if you ask me. Victor Salva needed a more compelling environment to truly create a new iconic horror demon. It is not that we have to travel back to the 80s to make horror films of the same type! You just have to be talented. Embrace your horror vision and show it proudly; don't try to satisfy modern pacing demands of the audiences...
