Review of Jeepers Creepers (1939) by Ben M — 18 Dec 2012
Ahhhh another film with a rating which is unjust. This film has an opening act 1 which is one of the best written, paced and tense I've ever seen. The film does have a dusk till dawn feel to it... Dusk till dawn started as one of the greatest gangster films ever made then turned into a vampire slaying horror film.
Had the killer in Jeepers creepers not turned out to be prehistoric creature then who knows how good it could have been but I personally found it to be a good spin on things. The film plays on a protagonist motive which is a favourite of mine.
.. he grows fond of a couple driving in his territory and won't stop until he gets what he wants. A scene inside a police station at the end is an effective way of showing your protagonist's power and desire, used in the original Terminator movie also.
A favourite scene of mine would be when the police are at the stairs and the director leaves it all up to the viewer's imagination by the police being fed information through the radio and the occasional sound of gun fire as we patiently wait for the villian to arrive.
The twist ending answers the main question of the film, Who is he after? and leaves it set up for a sequel in a classy way. Watch this film quick while you still have your peepers!
