Review of Jeepers Creepers (1939) by Kane L — 15 Sep 2013
Although a somewhat indecisive film, Jeepers Creepers stands as 2001's proud symbol, that horror films can still be loads of fun. The beginning of the film, and the initial premise of the narrative is buried beneath layers of suspense which perhaps lessens the effect once we are introduced to the story's eccentricities.
The acting is brilliant for a movie of this ones stature and it is obvious that each actor desires the audience to resonate with their character, which I believe was achieved. The effects are not good, but not bad either, and the design for 'the creeper' is brilliant, and although the SFX technicians and artists aren't fully recognised for their efforts, the creeper has officially designated itself as a horror icon.
Despite its obvious light hearted, cheesy, and whimsical nature, the film can manage to be creepy and suspenseful at times, and is by far one if my favourite horror films from the decade.
