Review of JCVD (2008) by Ryan C — 09 Jul 2009
Hopefully this movie will jump start jcvds career like the wrestler has jumped started mickey rourke's. the crowning moment of the film is when jcvd gives his seemingly semi-autobiographical soliloquy about his life to the audience, stepping outside of the box while talking, and then having the film resume when he is done.
a surprisingly raw and emotional delivery, though one wonders how much of a stretch it is for jean-claude to play a washed up aging action star. while the plot itself isn't anything new, the underlying message of it, van damme's acting (amazingly) and the semi autobiographical nature of it is just makes this movie work.
