Review of JCVD (2008) by Owen S — 13 Aug 2009
OK, it's only the second best JCVD film of all time, but it's awesome. JCVD as a Belgian existentialist?! Not much in terms of action or plot (the action is mostly parody and humorous), but it is really entertaining as a character study.
I really wish there were some way to reconcile the relative depth of this film with the rest of JCVD's work--pushing him towards Chow Yun Fat or Daniel Craig perhaps in terms of working actual drama into his character--you can see in this movie he's capable of it.
But from what I can see on the horizon in IMDB, I'm sadly skeptical.
