Review of JCVD (2008) by Andrew S — 08 Aug 2016
A decent change of pace for Van Damme that shows he can act as well as high kick. I hope he looks at varying his roles after this because he was impressive in this part. The irony and aspects of black comedy are also entertaining and while the tragedy of what could happen to an aging action star is interesting, there is too much self indulgence in the detail of this film and its move to try and be the opposite of a typical Van Damme film does make a point but is a bit to over done and gets boring towards the end.
Also the out of body speech in the middle just makes you a bit depressed as well as you wishing he would shut up and get on with the movie.
