Review of Jason Lives - Friday the 13th Part VI (1986) by Bradley L — 01 Jan 2017
Although I will probably always prefer the original Jason, before he was turned into an undead monster and butcher, I have to admit I was happy with the direction that was finally taken with this entry to the franchise.
Before, the franchise did its best to remain in the B-rate horror flick genre at best, even though New Beginning tried to take the series in a new direction: I still contend that it was an interesting experiment and would've liked to see the concept of Tommy becoming the new "Jason" being fleshed out (pun intended), esp since Jason could've been brought back any time.
I also think that despite the lack of goofiness from its predecessors, the new brand of humour and fourth-wall breaks finally drag the series out of the muck that the earlier films slodged around in and finally manage to firmly plant the franchise as more than just another notch in the post for horror flick fans.
Honestly, it's the (chronologically) first Friday the 13th movie I would actually recommend to normally uninterested parties.
