Review of Jarhead (2005) by Adam T — 12 Sep 2010
"Fuck that faggot, Let's watch it Again".
Bold words from Jake Gyllenhaal's character in Jarhead, A War movie that is not garunteed a place in cinematic history, but nevertheless an extremely good night in.
"Nothing Happens"... so many people say that, well... yeah too true, not every soldier in the Gulf War ended up in a bloody battle, infact half the time they questioned why the hell so many of them were there in the first place.
What did they accomplish?
What have they stopped?
Does any of them come back feeling that they made a difference to anything?
It's an extremely hard film to decipher, the harsh setting and everyday "hydrating & dehydrating" routine soon takes it's tole on the young soldier as he ends up slowly losing his sanity to both the boredom and paranoia that his girlfriend will be unfaithful back home.
I also found myself comparing the views of the solider to those of "A Clockwork Orange", the strange dreams and certain parts of anarchy I could not help but make the connection.
Final Verdict: If anything at the most, This movie is brutally honest. Nothing More, Nothing Less....
