Jake Gyllenhaal and Jamie Foxx give two powerful performances. Jarhead is a dark, but very entertaining character study of soldiers in the Gulf War. Jarhead is the adaptation of U.S Marine Anthony Swofford's Gulf War memoir.
Jake Gyllenhaal is great in the lead role. He does a splendid job at showing all the unique struggles of a soldier during the Gulf War. Jamie Foxx plays Staff Sergeant Sykes a dedicated marine who has a very agressive style of getting the soldiers prepared.
He is against all the exposure the marines are getting. Sam Mendes shows real directing range moving into the war genre, he uses his great directing talents to make a very good war movie. Jarhead is in now way a masterpiece, but it is a very well made war movie in a time where the war movie genre has been going through a rough period.
