Review of Jackie (2016) by Timothy A — 24 Jan 2017
Works reasonably as a docudrama and exemplarily as a showcase for Natalie Portman's performance. While Portman does a great job of portraying a public yet complicating woman, the script keeps trying to push her as a woman destined to leave a legacy in her own right, yet ends up suggesting that she really wasn't.
It's a quality production throughout (possible exception: Peter Sargaard's occasionally wavering accent) but at the end it's a melodrama when what it really wants is to be a statement.
