Review of I've Loved You So Long (2008) by Wallis I — 11 Jan 2010
Perfect cast and cannot say enough about Kristin Scott Thomas. What has her character done to earn the last 15 yrs in prison? We aren't told until the end. We don't know whether the character is to be pitied or despised and yet it doesn't seem to matter. Every emotion on her face is laced with quiet torment, the cause for which we are not allowed full access to until the ending.
Unbelievable performances.
Not a whole lot of fun unless you really get into personal relationships and family fallouts and loss etc.
It IS a French film so if you don't feel like reading (subtitles), then do not watch. :) If you do give it a chance, every word uttered (written) is pretty important to save and return to in order to reveal their truest meaning. Pretty heartwrenching but a really well told story of tragedy and redemption.
