Review of It's Always Fair Weather (1955) by Gregory S — 04 Jan 2009
If I had to recommend one film musical to someone who did not like musicals then this would be it. Aside form the fact that it's superbly crafted in every aspect but it avoids most of the cliche's associated with MGM musicals.
For one thing its among the cynical musicals to ever come out of the studio system, second the whole 'randomly breaking into song' really doesn't become as apparent here as it does in other musicals because technically the film is so engrossing in its own reality you never question the song and dance breaks.
One of the highest points in all musicals, and maybe all of cinema.
