Review of It's Always Fair Weather (1955) by Kate S — 16 Aug 2007
A classic musical from the Arthur Freed factory. A virtual sequel to On The Town, what marks this film out is its' cynical sense of humour, with its poking fun of the falseness and manipulativeness of television - quite biting at the time, when TV was a new medium, and no less true nowadays.
There are some outstanding production numbers (the Surrealist-influenced "Thanks But No Thanks" is particularly classy). A gem, and a nice alternative to more saccharine offerings, and a great opportunity to see a variety of talent showcased in an all-star cast.
If you're a straight male you'll spend the whole film glued to Cyd Charisse's impossibly long legs.
