Review of It's Alive (1974) by Mec R — 24 Feb 2008
I just watched this and "Q" in rapid succession and I have to agree with other posters that Cohen is very much underrated. Of course the F/X in these are not staggering in quality ... but Cohen goes deeper than that, and people who cry out for remakes of these films on the basis of improved technology miss the point, I think.
Cohen's scripts are marvelous and he wrings some fine performances from his actors. I mean, watch John Ryan in this movie: he is fabulous! _It's Alive_ is also effective at showcasing just what an ugly decade the 70s were in terms of color and fashion and design, but of course that is my opinion.
:^) Well worth watching.
