Review of It's Alive (1974) by Michael W — 16 May 2015
Never let it be said that Larry Cohen doesn't make interesting films. They may not be very good, but they are fraught with big themes that belie the humble, sometimes crude style. It's Alive is another such horror.
Presumably a monster movie, it's really about parenthood fears and acceptance from a father's perspective. There are some decent shocks and Ryan and company are so over the top in performances that it appears to be a simple b-movie horror.
