Review of It's a Gift (1923) by Tom M — 25 Dec 2007
Much fun to be had in watching this fine old comedy, containing expert timing, with Fields master of the slow-build and the offhand and indubitably sour retort. As gloriously chaotic as the best of the Marx Brothers, with a certain irascible philosophy all of its own.
Some wonderful set-pieces: the cumquats scene and the slow build of WCF's time on his makeshift bed on the outer landing especially.
