Review of Italian for Beginners (2000) by Yago C — 21 Jun 2008
A superior ensemble romantic comedy, without any pretensions to be more than that. Several scenes are hilarious. But more importantly, all the characters are touching as they humbly and imperfectly make their way toward love.
There are no earth-shattering transformations. Just simple shifts arising out of the group's interactions that permit each character, to varying degrees, to move through whatever obstacle was keeping them from the one they love.
A simple, well-acted, original and touching film.
